PORTRAITS:

Once a session booking has been made, we will discuss the look, feel and style that you would like to create. My goal is to capture your natural moments. I will give some direction for posing, but please allow yourself to move and pose to what feels natural.  We will shoot at different places within the location, creating different backgrounds and different lighting options.  If we are shooting a session with children, feel free to bring snacks, we can take brakes as needed.  We can incorporate any fun ideas you may have.  1 hour before sunset is recommended time to shoot. Multiple outfit changes are encouraged.

HEADSHOTS:

Once a session booking has been made, we will have a discussion about what looks your wanting to achieve. This would include different clothing options as well as different hairstyles. I understand that your images are an important part of promoting yourself.  They need to stand out, get you noticed, and correctly represent you. We will work together tell we capture your personality.  We can consider shooting at different locations, this creates a variety of background options.

PET PORTRAITS:

Once a session booking has been made, we will have a discussion about your pet or pets.  Is there anything unique your pet does that you like to capture.  A unique quality or a personality trait.  A favorite place, toy or activity your pet enjoys.  For dogs, you could consider shooting at your location.  This allows the pet to be off leash, which looks better.  30 min before the shoot please allow your dog or dogs to run around.  This will make it easier for me because the pets are more willing to stay still during the session.  1 hour before sunset is the best time to shoot.

LOCATION:

The location of the shoot can add a lot of fun and meaning to your images. The session will be focused on you, but an exciting background adds color, texture, lines, and light.  My instagram and my website blogs offer mini location examples.  Please contact me for location ideas.

INFORMATION

I often get asked what makes the best photo shoot. Is it location? Is it the outfits? Is it the natural beauty of the client? What about the lighting? While all of these aspects are important, they are not all equally important. I am going to do my best to do help guide you through some important information you should consider before your shoot day

WHAT TO WEAR FOR YOUR SHOOT

FAMILY PORTRAIT OR ENGAGEMENT

Clothing is a great way to express your self.  I recommend wearing clothing that makes you feel most comfortable.  Also consider clothing that compliments your hair, eyes and skin tone.  You can have multiple clothing changes if you’d like.

Recommended:

  • Shirts can be colorful, monochrome or shades of a similar color.  Tank tops are not recommended.
  • Clothing comfortable enough to move, sit and walk around in, yet for fitting so clothes don’t look baggy.
  • Please run a lint roller over dark-colored clothing.
  • Please make sure clothing is not wrinkled.
  • Clothing might get a little dirt on them if I ask you to sit.  Shoes comfortable enough to walk to various locations in.  Shoes may get a little wet if it is an AM shoot
  • Base foundation or concealer for ladies, it takes a long time for me to remove blemishes and soften out skin in the editing process.
  • Moisture and softened lips.  Chapped lips show up.
  • Consider a manicure for fingernails and toenails, because they will show.
  • Men could consider touching up the grey area in the beard if they appear.

Not Recommended:

  • Clothing that contains texture such as patterns, stripes, and multiple colors.
  • Logos, brands & characters.
  • Wearing all white or all black.  Consider grey and other colors to break things up.  But stay within a monochrome theme.
  • High heels.  Consider the walk in between locations.
  • Hats (create a  shadow in the face).  Flatten your hairstyle when taken off.
  • Stiff Fabric.  Consider how much a shirt creates creases and folds. Cotton fabric sits well.

HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR PORTRAIT CLOTHING SUGGESTIONS

It’s important to bring clothing that you will feel comfortable in. I recommend bringing a variety of clothing options. Consider Jeans, blouses, dress, skirts, t-shirts, jackets, Letterman Jacket, sports uniform, slacks, dress shirts, etc. I recommend having one nice outfit, one you wear often and one that relates to your interests. Make sure your clothes are pressed and clean. Run a lint roller over darker colors. Ladies, please wear a base foundation. Chapstick is recommended to soften lips. Chapped lips show up. Consider having your nails and toes manicured. High heels are not recommended.

HEADSHOTS / MODELING CLOTHING SUGGESTIONS

It’s important to bring clothing that you will feel comfortable in. I recommend bringing a variety of clothing options, staying within what you would wear to an audition. Bring shirts with a variety of collars and necklines. Solid colors look best. Consider different textures and shades. Think of building in layers. Bring undershirts, T-shirts, collared shirts, sweaters, jackets, leather jackets, scarfs, etc. Consider layering light and dark clothes for better contrast. Consider workout clothing and a business suit. For Commercial headshots, bring casual clothes & lighter/brighter colors. Think sporty and fun. For theatrical headshots, bring dressier, upscale clothes with darker colors. Make sure your clothes are pressed and clean. Run a lint roller over darker colors. Consider having your nails and toes manicured. Use chapstick to soften lips. Choose clothes that complement your hair, skin tone, and eye color. No solid white shirts if you’re Caucasian or light-skinned.
